Project Overview

For my capstone, I chose to create a short pilot about a 15 year old boy who is “the last boy on earth.” This project is an Apocalyptic/Sci-fi/ thriller rooted in loss, oppression, loneliness, hope, identity and love.

Implementation and Process

Film locations will be Spain and Thailand and one other possible location.

High-level summary:

  • Aurora is a 15 minute narrative film set across Spain and Thailand that follows a young traveler navigating a post-apocalyptic world with symbolic imagery, minimal dialogue, and cinematic visuals.

  • Filming will be done using an iPhone + gimbal to achieve a mobile, naturalistic look.

  • Target audience table and persona images have been added.

  • Project scope clarified: focus on visual storytelling + symbolic narrative.

 Challenges I Anticipate

Practical / technical challenges:

  • Maintaining visual consistency across continents (Spain + Thailand footage).

  • Capturing natural light conditions without artificial lighting support.

  • Sound design: ensuring clean, layered audio in unpredictable environments.

Story + narrative challenges:

  • Creating emotional depth with minimal dialogue.

  • Balancing symbolic storytelling with clarity.

Logistics:

  • Travel coordination

  • Securing location permission if needed

  • Time management between editing + coursework

What You’re Most Excited About

Creative excitement:

  • Filming across multiple countries → visually unique locations

  • The opportunity to merge personal identity + creative filmmaking

  • Working with my son as collaborator and actor

  • Bringing symbolic, minimalist cinematography to life
